A St Andrews tribute to the iconic Champion

A tribute to Seve Ballesteros at St Andrews West Sands

St Andrews West Sands was the venue for a special tribute to the great Seve Ballesteros in view of his greatest moment – that glorious victory in The 1984 Open Championship.

To mark the 10-year anniversary of his passing on Friday 7 May, The R&A is celebrating Seve’s life and career with a host of unique tributes to the three-time Champion Golfer.

They include the production of a feature length-documentary film, the publication of a stunning photobook by renowned sports photographer David Cannon and an 18-month exhibition at the British Golf Museum in St Andrews.

Cannon’s famous photo of a fist-pumping Ballesteros celebrating on the 18th green at St Andrews has been used to create a brand image that will be used throughout this celebration.

And with the help of Sand in Your Eye – a team of sand artists based in the north of England – the iconic image was brought to life on the beach that runs alongside the Old Course.

A team of four people were involved in creating the eye-catching artwork, which took around six hours to complete.

Watch the video below to see the finished product in all its glory.
