As the countdown continues to The 150th Open at St Andrews, we are delighted to launch an interactive timeline celebrating The Journey, in partnership with Rolex.
The timeline, which can be viewed at thejourney.theopen.com, provides a fascinating insight into every single edition of The Open, starting with the inaugural Championship at Prestwick in 1860, through a range of videos, podcasts, imagery, feature articles and audio clips.
A celebration of The Open’s greatest stories and its most captivating competitors, the timeline is part of an in-depth content campaign that will bring fans of golf closer than ever before to the magnificent history of our great Championship, whetting the appetite for what promises to be a landmark occasion at the Home of Golf in July.
In addition to telling the tales of Open greats such as Old Tom Morris, Harry Vardon, Bobby Jones, Peter Thomson, Jack Nicklaus, Tom Watson, Seve Ballesteros, Sir Nick Faldo and Tiger Woods, The Journey delves deep into the archives to examine many of the Championship’s unsung heroes and curious oddities through the years.
It also provides a unique insight into how The Open and the game of golf has evolved in the 162 years since Willie Park Snr became the first Champion Golfer.
Fans can enjoy highlights of countless iconic Open moments, together with rare documentary footage, extracts from newspapers dating back to the 19th century and engaging interviews with players and historians.
You can follow The Journey through The Open’s social media platforms, with new content appearing daily, and of course TheOpen.com will continue to bring you the greatest stories in golf.
