Bryson DeChambeau

DeChambeau
Won his first major title in the 2020 US Open at feared Winged Foot, posting a closing 67 – the best round of the day by three – to turn a two-stroke deficit into a six-shot victory.

Second and first in the last two majors, the latter bringing him a second US Open crown in five years.

After being pipped by Xander Schauffele at the PGA Championship he went to Pinehurst and beat Rory McIlroy by the same one-stroke margin following a drama-filled duel. DeChambeau won his first title at Winged Foot, posting a closing 67 – the best round of the day by three – to turn a two-stroke deficit into a six-shot victory.

Bulked himself up during the coronavirus lockdown and appeared capable of overpowering any course, yet his short game was much-improved too and that has been evident again this year.

He earned his second Ryder Cup cap in 2021 and tied for eighth in the 2022 Open at St Andrews a month after switching to the LIV Golf tour.

DeChambeau first came to global attention in 2014 at the World Amateur Team Championship, where his 11-birdie 61 in the third round was a tournament record. He then joined Jack Nicklaus, Phil Mickelson, Tiger Woods and Ryan Moore as the only men to win the American college title and US Amateur Championship.

Unbeaten in the 2015 Walker Cup at Royal Lytham, he was also the top amateur in coming joint 21st at the 2016 Masters and two years later captured the first two legs of the FedEx Cup play-offs, making him an obvious wild card pick for the Ryder Cup in Paris.

Second and first in the last two majors, the latter bringing him a second US Open crown in five years.
