Came through the Final Qualifying competition to earn his spot at Royal Portrush in 2019, but is back now thanks to his 21st place finish on last season’s DP World Tour Rankings.
That campaign included his second victory on the circuit in the 2022 Cazoo Open at Celtic Manor, where he triumphed by four from Connor Syme.
The former English amateur champion – he beat Matt Fitzpatrick in the final in 2013, the year that Fitzpatrick became US Amateur champion and was low amateur in The Open – picked up his first title in Cyprus at the end of 2020 and he needed a play-off there to see off Kalle Samooja.
Was close to winning the 2016 Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open, but needing a par five on the closing hole he bogeyed and then lost the play-off to Rafael Cabrera-Bello.
Was a boxer in his youth – his cousin Miles turned professional – but then concentrated on golf and after winning the national title earned a Walker Cup cap alongside Fitzpatrick, also helped England win the European team title and had a runner-up finish in only his third start on the Challenge Tour.
Entered the world’s top 100 for the first time in October 2022.
