Was still a teenager when he finished last year with an astonishing three successive victories. 

His first came on the Asian Development Tour in Saudi Arabia, then he won the Thailand Open on his home circuit and followed that up on the Asian Tour at the Saudi Open, where he pushed 2016 Champion Golfer Henrik Stenson into second spot.

The spectacular golf continued at February’s IRS Prima Malaysian Open, where three Royal Troon places were available as part of The Open Qualifying Series.

With nine holes to go all hope of one of those appeared to have gone, but he birdied no fewer than eight of them for an Asian Tour record-equalling 28.

Even at that point he could not be certain of a trip to Scotland, but his tie for third spot proved good enough.

“I told my caddie ‘Let’s have some fun on the back nine,” he said. “I started holing putts from everywhere and also chipped in – everything happened.”

His win over Stenson – winner of the Claret Jug at Royal Troon, of course – came by three strokes with a closing 64.
