His enduring class has resulted in nine top-10 finishes at The Open, from a fourth-placed finish on debut at St Andrews in 1984 to a tie for third at the same venue 21 years later.
A prolific winner on the PGA Tour during the 1990s, he also played on five Ryder Cup teams for the United States and was able to record five consecutive top-20 finishes at the Masters after turning 50.
