Will be celebrating his 28th birthday on Day 2 of his Open debut, his place guaranteed by finishing 27th in his first full season on the DP World Tour.
It included a joint runner-up finish at the Magical Kenya Open three weeks after he tied for third at the Ras al Khaimah Classic. There were to be six other top 10 finishes, two of them in America in co-sanctioned events with the PGA Tour.
Did not turn professional until 2019, having represented Germany three times in the Eisenhower Trophy world amateur team championship and five times in the European championships, plus the International side in the 2018 Arnold Palmer college match against the United States, where he played against Collin Morikawa in the opening mixed fourballs.
Attended Texas Tech University from 2015-18 after an initial spell at the University of Oregon and set a course record 61 at Pebble Beach in winning the 2017 Carmel Cup in a play-off.
Won his first professional title later on the ProGolf Tour and in 2020 captured a Challenge Tour title in Italy, securing promotion to the main circuit with a 17th place finish on their order of merit.
