Masaveu needed a play-off to grab the last of the four places on offer, but Montojo’s rounds of 71 and 70 gave him a share of second spot behind Matthew Southgate with his mother acting as caddie.
Recently finished his second season studying business and management at Texas A&M University, winning on the college circuit in April, and hails from a family who have been playing golf for generations.
His great-grandmother was runner-up in the 1946 and 1948 Spanish Women’s Amateur Championships, her grandmother lifted the same title in 1958 and her father represented Spain.
Montojo went into Final Qualifying 106th on the World Amateur Golf Rankings.
