Plays his first Open since 2017 thanks to a second-place finish at February’s IRS Prima Malaysian Open, where three spots were up for grabs as part of the Qualifying Series.
From six behind with a round to play – and only a month after he regained his Asian Tour card at their qualifying school - he fired a 10-under-par closing 61 to finish two behind Spaniard David Puig.
It was at Royal Troon that he made his major debut in 2016 after becoming the first player since Rory McIlroy in 2014 to win consecutive DP World Tour events, a performance which enabled him to follow compatriot Byeong-hun An as the circuit’s Rookie of the Year.
First he captured the Hassan Trophy in Morocco with two play-offs birdies against Spaniard Nacho Elvira, making the then 20-year-old the youngest winner on the circuit since Matteo Manassero at the 2012 Barclays Singapore Open, then came from three strokes behind with three holes to play to beat Siddikur Rahman by one at the AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open.
His third success on the circuit came at the following season’s Commercial Bank Qatar Masters, again in a play-off.
