Back after an 11-year absence thanks to his two-stroke victory in the Senior Open at Carnoustie last July, which made him the first Korean golfer to lift a senior major.
An eight-time winner on the PGA Tour, Choi's last success came at the prestigious Players Championship in 2011.
Choi also had success on the DP World Tour at the 2003 Linde German Masters and last May on his 54th birthday he made it 17 victories on his home Korean Tour at the SK Telecom Open.
His Open debut was way back in 1998 and this will be his 16th appearance. He was in second place at the halfway stage of The 136th Open at Carnoustie in 2007 and eventually finished tied-eighth.
The veteran's best major finish is third at the 2004 Masters, three strokes behind winner Phil Mickelson, and he has had two other top-10 finishes at Augusta.
He was a member of three Presidents Cup teams and alongside Adam Scott in 2011 he registered the biggest foursomes victory in the event’s history – over Tiger Woods and Steve Stricker.
Choi spent 40 weeks in the game’s top 10, reaching a high of fifth in 2008.
