Five spots at Royal Liverpool were up for grabs there and the others went to Rohwer's fellow countrymen Charl Schwartzel and Branden Grace and also France’s Antoine Rozner.
Rohwer went into the competition 765th in the world, but on the back of a tie for third at the Sunshine Tour’s SunBet Challenge.
He is a three-time winner on the circuit – in 2019 he captured the Investec Royal Swazi Open and last year he added the Bains Whisky Ubunye Championship and Vodacom Origins of Golf Final.
In between he was runner-up in the Gauteng Championship, two strokes behind Jbe Kruger.
He went on a golf scholarship to the University of Alabama Birmingham. His father is an equine vet and works with race horses.
