Ryo Hisatsune

Makes his Open debut after a stunning victory at last season’s Cazoo French Open.

Makes his Open debut after a stunning victory at last season’s Cazoo French Open.

Hisatsune was only 21 at the time and ranked 166th in the world he came from six strokes behind early in the final round to win by two after a back-nine 30.

It made him only the third Japanese winner on the DP World Tour, following Isao Aoki and Hideki Matsuyama.

Hisatsune, winner of the Japan Challenge Tour after three victories in 2021, came through the 2022 European qualifying school in seventh place, then less than two weeks later was joint runner-up behind 2022 Champion Golfer of the Year Cameron Smith at the Fortinet Australian PGA Championship.

With eight top-10 finishes in all, he took 17th spot on the Race to Dubai money list, with the top 30 all earning places at Royal Troon.

After his triumph at Le Golf National he said: It feels unreal. I only turned pro three years ago and now I’m here with my first win – it’s so amazing."

He reached the world’s top 100 for the first time in October.
