Achieved his 2012 U.S. Open victory at the Olympic Club in San Francisco, where he beat Graeme McDowell and Michael Thompson by one.
Simpson did not appear at The Open a month later because of his wife's pregnancy.
He added the 2013 Shriners Hospitals for Children Open, but then came close to slipping out of the top 100 before returning to prominence in May 2018 with a superb four-stroke win at the Players Championship, which included a course record-equalling second-round 63. It was quickly followed by top 12 finishes at both the U.S. Open and The Open.
He played in the 2007 Walker Cup at Royal County Down and in 2011 he was poised to top the PGA Tour money list until Luke Donald captured the final event. Then came three wins with Bubba Watson at the Presidents Cup and two more alongside him on his Ryder Cup debut in 2012.
Simpson was a wildcard selection for the 2014 match at Gleneagles and returned to the side in Paris in 2018, winning again with Watson and beating Justin Rose in the singles.
In 2020 he added two more victories at the Waste Management Open and RBC Heritage, helping him to a career-high ranking of world No. 4.
