Had never played on the PGA Tour Latinoamerica until December’s Visa Argentine Open – and won it by a shot to book an Open debut at Royal Liverpool.
“I’m just over the moon right now,” said the Korn Ferry Tour member, whose previous major appearance was the 2013 US Open.
Scored a final round 68 to edge Linus Lilliedahl by one, holing from four feet after the Swede had made an 18-footer.
“That was too much pressure for sure,” he added. “It was an amazing feeling when it dropped.”
Lost his KFT card in 2017 and during four years without status, his wife Kaitlin worked several jobs to help the couple make ends meet while he chased his pro-golf dreams.
When the couple had their first child in February 2021, she was employed as a graphic designer and wedding videographer while also taking classes to become a court reporter.
He was not even in the game’s top 1,000 until a third place finish at the Simmons Bank Open in May last year lifted him nearly 400 spots. His victory in Buenos Aires helped him reach the leading 400 early this year.
